Hi, I'm Mel, I'm 26. I was dx with POF at 21, 7-8 years after my periods stopped at the age of 14. I had no idea what was wrong and neither did the Dr's I saw. I have osteoporosis bone density in my spine andd my hip is in osteopenia. I have struggled to understand the diagnosis since I was told, even refusing treatment as at that time I wasn't displaying any symptoms. I am still struggling with my symptoms and after 5 different medications I hope I am getting closer to finding the one for me but am appearing to be sensitive to oestrogen. Currently, I am taking HRT called Livial which contains 2.5mg of Tibilone.
This dx shook my self-perception and I have found immense strength in talking to other women and myself and Jewl (IrishJewlz) became best of friends and held each others hands through this dx. I cannot tell you how much it has helped to have someone say 'I know how you feel' and truly mean it from the bottom of their heart. We hope you all will also begin to help each other find a way through, its by no means easy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as long as you continue to walk through it. Don't let this beat you and take over who you are, you are bigger than POF! I have had some therapy, done a mindfulness meditation course, been to a support group and hunted for all the info I could find out there on POF. I've also been advocating for better health care and writing to my MP. All these things have helped me to find the tools to deal with this diagnosis. Above all, I am beginning to feel like 'me' again. I hope from this forum, you will find the tools that will help you to deal with it too.
